Synopsis Gastric cancer is one of the common malignancies in economically less developed regions. The standard surgery for such patients involves total or subtotal gastrectomy. However, during such surgeries, postoperative ileus (POI) is not very rare and often causes symptoms such as distention, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting due to the accumulation of gas and secretions.

These factors often affect patient recovery, prolongs hospital stay, and increases cost. The present study aimed at applying a novel technique of transcutaneous electroacupuncture (TEA) in gastric cancer patients and find its safety and efficacy in promoting the postoperative recovery of bowel motility.
