In a local dermatology clinic, a 27 year-old fisherman was presented with itchy skin lesions on his forearms. Lesions were noted a few hours after contacting the pond water and were persisted for a week post- harvesting and pond cleaning. Skin examination showed forearm with multiple erythematous papules and Paulo-pustules of approximately 2-3 mm in diameter. Laboratory investigation comprising hepatic and renal function tests were typical, however, blood analysis revealed presence of eosinophils in peripheral blood.

It is thought that Lymnaeid snails may be responsible for the release of cercariae, one of the larval forms of trematode worms, which may have passed through the fisherman’s skin.
