A new technology, that promises to heal subtalar arthrodesis and calcaneal fractures using locked nailing, has been associated with better patient outcomes and fewer complications. The technique is a minimally invasive and uses cannulated screws to repair displaced intra-articular fractures. Surgeons can use a hollow reamer to form a tunnel into the calcaneus using a “through-the-heal approach”.
The inventors of the technique claim that it uses limited incision and can lessen dissection and tissue complications. Source: Podiatry Today
