Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss (ARHL) affects around 66.66% of adults above 70 years of age and 80% of adults above 85. Hearing loss can impair memory, cognition, and social inclusion. Hearing aids help restore hearing abilities, alertness, and memory. But its high cost, intrusiveness, and associated social stigma result in its under usage. This article discusses the reasons for its underuse and the ongoing research for improving hearing interventions.
