In a recently published study in “Circulation”, researchers have shown that women who have given birth to infants with a congenital heart defect are at a greater risk of developing cardiovascular diseases(CVD) later in life. The researchers have claimed that congenital heart disease in an offspring may be an early marker of predisposition to CVD. The study : The study was conducted on 10,84,251 Canadian women who delivered between 1989 to 2013.
Women whose offsprings showed severe, mild or no congenital heart diseases were identified and were followed up to 25 years after pregnancy for signs of CVD. Results : Results showed that women with offsprings who had congenital heart defects were at a greater risk of CVD.
