Case presentation A 74-year-old woman is suffering from intermittent lower abdominal pain for the past ten years. There has been a sensation of distention in the left iliac fossa and colicky pain. The condition is usually relieved by passing flatus or feces. Her bowel movements are constipated, and she passes small pieces of stool. The patient underwent a barium enema four years ago after passing blood in a bowel movement (Refer cover image). She felt unwell over the last week and has continuous pain in her left iliac fossa.
Her appetite has reduced, and she has not had bowel movements over the previous two days. Medical history: Hysterectomy 20 years ago for fibroids.
