Researchers from the Washington University School of Medicine, USA recently found that cefepime administered via rapid intravenous (IV) push, as well as prolonged courses of this drug for ≥ 2 weeks, are associated with a higher risk of cefepime-induced neutropenia. The study showed that 15% of the patients developed neutropenia via IV administration as compared to 1.6% of patients who were administered with cefepime via other routes.
