Results obtained from a randomized single-blinded trial suggests that pressure-sensing smart insoles can reduce the occurrence of diabetic foot ulcers by 86% in high-risk individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. The study was conducted on 58 participants who had type 1 and type 2 diabetes and have neuropathic or other neurological symptoms or have had previous incidences of diabetic foot ulcers. A 86% (incident rate ratio (IRR), 0.14;  P  = 0.011) reduction was observed in the risk on re-ulceration.

Given that interventions to manage diabetic foot ulcers are few, such innovations may help in the effective management of neuropathy or other such diabetes-related complications. Source: Medscape
