Synopsis Steroid is the primary pharmacotherapeutic choice for sarcoidosis. However, the use of steroids is not encouraged beyond a specific time frame because of associated toxicites. Furthermore, there is less evidence on the second-line therapy for patients with “corticosteroid-sensitive” sarcoidosis. In this regard, the present study compares the effects of azathioprine (AZA) and methotrexate (MTX) as a second-line treatment option in this particular group of patients with sarcoidosis.
