Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), with symptoms of nasal congestion and the associated discomfort, severely affects the patient’s quality of life. As these symptoms and nasal mucosa compliance (NMC) cannot be assessed by observation, including CT imaging, clinicians have had to rely on an individual patient’s experience to determine susceptibility to pharmacotherapy. This necessitated  the quest for an objective method of examination to reflect NMC.

1 The airway mucosa undergoes tissue remodelling in response to a destructive stimulus, which is distinguished by a decrease in vascular density and an increase in fibrosis, resulting in a continuous thickening of the mucosa and reduced contraction.
