Many treatments for chronic diseases require multiple intravenous or subcutaneous injection of specific drugs. However, due to the pain and anxiety associated with needles reduces treatment adherence. To answer this a needle-free device has been proposed by MIT spinout researcher. This injection device could reduce the pain and anxiety associated with needle injection, shorten administration time, and improve patient adherence.
This injector delivers a rapid, high-pressure stream of medicine which will be as thin as a strand of hair, through the skin in adjustable dosages, causing little or no pain. It is still a matter of time before the device clears all the safety and efficacy regulations and commercialized. It may or may not reach Indian markets. But as practicing physician, do you think such injectors will be really helpful in chronic conditions?
