Synopsis In type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, reducing its burden is an important goal of antidiabetic medications (ADMs). Metformin is widely used as a first-line therapy due to its cardiovascular benefits. However, there is a lack of consensus among the clinicians in choosing the right ADM for patients who are intolerant of metformin or unable to achieve adequate glycemic control with metformin.
