A 37-year-old male with moderate periodontal disease and with a PMH of pre-hypertension and hyperlipidemia (HLP) (No evidence of diabetes, LDL 131 mg/dL, HDL 35 mg/dL, Ultra-sensitive CRP 2.6) is under systemic therapy with Submicrobial dose doxycycline hyclate along with Chlorhexidine 0.12% oral rinse 15 cc bid. He has been also advised to go through the procedure of plaque removal with scaling and root planing (SRP) q 3-6 mo. Culture not done. But recently the patient has developed sudden shortness of breath at times.
He has stable vital signs (VSS) and the rest of the examination is normal. Is the recent development related to the ongoing antibiotic therapy? Is there any immediate changes in medication needed?
