A 2-year-old child in Dubai survived a life-threatening complication after two unsuccessful surgeries of a cochlear implant. The child, at 8 months of age, was diagnosed with profound deafness due to atrophy of the cochlea for which she underwent the cochlear transplant. Upon deterioration of the condition, she was referred to an ENT and cochlear implant consultant surgeon performed a one-hour surgery and discharged her in a good health. After being diagnosed with profound deafness at 8 months of age, she was fitted with hearing aids for seven months which proved no benefits.
Later, the child had undergone her first surgery which lasted for about four-and-a-half-hour. However, the outcome of the surgery was devastating.
