A team of doctors at the Zulekha Hospital, Sharjah recently saved the life of a 34-year-old man who suffered a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction known as the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. The patient was admitted to the hospital with complaints of flu-like symptoms that developed as an adverse effect to a drug known as Carbamazepine. This led to the occurrence of severe blisters similar to that of burns all over the patient’s body, including the eyes and throat. Prompt diagnosis by the doctors helped in the identification of the patient's condition at the nick of time.
