A controversy has arisen at one of the hospitals in Maninagar, Ahmedabad after a video circulating on social media allegedly showed resident doctors from the orthopaedics department sleeping on ICU beds during their duty hours. The incident quickly attracted public attention and led the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to seek an explanation from the hospital authorities. While the footage triggered criticism over the use of ICU beds by doctors, many members of the medical community came forward to defend the residents, arguing that extreme work schedules often leave doctors with little opportunity for rest.
