A young woman is presented to the emergency department in an ambulance after falling off a 4-feet wall. Her friend mentioned that they had been out drinking, and the patient slipped and fell on her left knee. The woman did not attempt walking since the injury. History The patient is a normal and healthy working woman. She takes combined oral contraceptives and smokes 10-20 cigarettes per day. Examinations Upon physical examination, the patient’s knee appears to be swollen and bruised with intact skin.
No tenderness in the medial and lateral joints. The patient is unable to extend the knee actively, while other joints and knee sensation are unremarkable. Plain X-ray of the patient revealed a fractured patella (Refer cover images) with a gap of around 3 mm.
