A team of doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), India successfully operated on a 17-year-old girl who had been carrying a malformed twin inside her abdomen   for the last 17 years. The girl presented with an abdominal lump that was gradually growing in size for about 5 years (Fig. 1).

Initially, the doctors carried out laboratory investigations, including tests for beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG), and alpha-fetoprotein, as well as routine blood tests for the detection of any tumor; however, the tests were within normal limits. Later, they performed an abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) scan that revealed a well-defined mass extending from the epigastrium to the upper pelvis, which was grossly displacing the intra-abdominal viscera.
