An 82-year-old diabetic man presented to the ED with complaints of onset of acute pain in his left hip and groin area along with fever. The patient had a history of undergoing a total hip replacement 10 years ago. Vital Measurements Temperature: 39.2°C Blood pressure: 96/57 mm Hg Hematological Analysis White cell count: 12,400/cubic milliliter Radiograph and CT Scan Analysis A radiograph ( Fig. 1A ) and a CT scan analysis ( Fig. 1B ) of the hip revealed free air, extending laterally to the patient’s greater trochanter and superior to the acetabular component.
Treatment Offered The patient was started on broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. Emergency surgical debridement was initiated for the removal of the acetabular component.
