An association between nasal obstruction and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been presumed following reports of sleep disturbance during nasal congestion and improved sleep quality following relief from nasal obstruction. 1 In a prospective study of 50 consecutive patients with nasal airway obstruction and OSA, correction of nasal airway obstruction improved nasal breathing in 98% of patients (n=49), decreased snoring in 34% of patients (n=17), and increased daytime energy levels in 78% patients (n=39). 2 Hence, the correction of the obstructed nasal airway is beneficial in the overall treatment of OSA.
