The Delhi high court has imposed a ban on the online sale of medicines through e-pharmacies across the country with immediate effect. The court order is in response to a petition which stated that several medicines were being sold on the internet through e-pharmacies every day without any regulation. The petition further stated that the uncontrolled sale of medicine could potentially be risky to both patients and health care providers. Nakul Mohta, who filed the petition on behalf of Dr.

Ahmed, said that the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Pharmacy Act, 1948 does not permit the online sale of medicines. The petitioner highlighted that the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has already directed state authorities to restrict the online sale of medicine.
