According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, students who attend Depression Awareness Programs (ADAP) are more likely to seek help for treating depression. Therefore, early i dentification and treatment of depression in adolescents are essential to minimize its impact on children. The study results corroborate the belief that early recognition and effective therapies can lead to better outcomes. For this study, 3,681 students (average age 16 years) from 54 high schools were randomly placed in ADAP, while 2,998 students were placed in the control group.
Students in the ADAP group learned a curriculum that teaches how to recognize symptoms of depression and how they can be diagnosed and treated.
