Synopsis Venous disease is considered to be the most common cause of leg ulceration that usually results in superficial venous reflux or varicose veins. Compression therapy improves the healing of venous leg ulcers but has no direct role in the treatment of the underlying causes of venous hypertension. Previous studies have demonstrated that treatment of varicose veins reduces the rate of ulcer recurrence. However, the role of early endovenous ablation of superficial venous reflux on ulcer healing is not yet established.
