Synopsis Acute bacterial skin and skin-structure infections are a significant cause of morbidity and healthcare costs. Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, in particular) primarily account for most of the skin infections. Effective management of skin infections is further complicated by the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains, especially methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA).
