Scientists at the Deakin University have recently suggested that putting graphic images of the side effects of consumption of sweetened beverages on cans and bottles can steer consumers towards healthier options. Consumption of sweetened beverages often leads to obesity, diabetes or tooth decay. The use of graphic images or warnings on packages often creates a psychological impact on the minds of the consumers which deters them from buying the product. A classic example of this was the use of warning messages on cigarette packets.
Keeping this in mind, researchers at the Deakin University conducted a study to understand if graphic images or warnings would be helpful in reducing the consumption of sweetened beverages.
