It may seem hard to believe, but the incidence rate of cancer in India is among the lowest in the world. At 106.6 new cancer cases in 2016 per 100,000 people, India ranked tenth among the countries with the lowest cancer incidence in an analysis by the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation. The top three countries in terms of incidence rates were Australia (743.8), New Zealand (542.8) and the United States (532.9). Four other Southeast Asian countries featured in the bottom 10 in the analysis of cancer incidence in 195 countries. These are Bhutan (86), Nepal (90.7) and Sri Lanka (101.6).
