A team of doctors at the University Hospital Sharjah has recently removed a huge mass from a 27-year-old pregnant woman's abdomen. The patient had no previous history of any miscarriage or cancer and was regular on her medication. She was rushed to the hospital after an episode of severe abdominal pain. During admission, a quick abdominal scan detected a massive mass measuring about 8x7x5cms. The huge mass present in the patient’s abdomen risked the growth of the baby in the womb.
Therefore, immediate surgical intervention was essential to save the patient from adverse pregnancy outcome. A laparoscopy surgery was conducted to remove the mass. The patient was discharged the next day due to fast recovery. Following this case, doctors recommend preventive screening of pregnant women who find any irregularities during their pregnancy.
