Ectopic thyroid is a rare malformation resulting from developmental defects during the early stages of thyroid gland embryogenesis. This abnormality results in the localization of the thyroid tissue elsewhere (for instance, midline in the cervical area) than the normal pre tracheal region. However, the incidence of ectopic thyroid tissue located in the lateral neck region is rare, and that in the presence of the orthotopic thyroid gland is rarer. The present article describes a case presentation of orthotopic multinodular goiter with a rare ectopic thyroi d in the lateral cervical area of a female patient.
