Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (ZES), also known as gastrinoma or pancreatic ulcerogenic tumor syndrome or Z-E syndrome, is a rare disease characterized by tumor formation in the pancreas or duodenum, secreting large amounts of the hormone gastrin, causing the stomach to produce excess acid. Epidemiology Incidence rate: 0.5 to 3 out of every 1 million people/year Common in people aged 20 to 50 years More common in men Though 80% of cases are unrelated, 20-25% of cases occur associated with a rare genetic disorder called multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1).
