In order to merge the rural bond service with the course duration, the Maharashtra's medical education department has proposed to tweak the duration of the MBBS course to 6.5 years from the existing 5.5 years. The states Medical education department has found that many students often skip their rural internships in the name of higher education and there is a absence of a fool proof government mechanism to track their career graphs.
Furthermore, the medical education department has approved this proposal by saying that compulsory rural bond service with the course duration will benefit the students to receive awarded degrees only after completion of their one-year of rural posting According to the new provision, the students will not be able to proceed for post-graduation until they have serve the bond period.
